what is EDIINT AS2
LoadTalk EDI and AS2 Are Among Our Rich Heritage in Providing Communications to the Transportation Industry
We are expanding our training and education for our community
EDIINT AS2 is a secure, Internet-based protocol developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for the reliable exchange of business documents over the web. It is designed to support Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and other data formats—such as XML, JSON, CSV, and flat files—using HTTP/HTTPS as the transport mechanism.
Key features of the AS2 standard include:
- Security: Ensures privacy, data integrity, authenticity, and nonrepudiation through encryption (S/MIME or PGP) and digital signatures.
- Message Structure: Uses a layered MIME-based packaging format with HTTP headers, encrypted and signed payloads, and optional digital signatures.
- Acknowledgments: Supports Message Disposition Notifications (MDNs) for receipt confirmation, which can be synchronous or asynchronous.
- Flexibility: Compatible with various data formats, including X12, EDIFACT, and XML, and supports multiple file attachments via RFC 6362 (AS2 version 1.2).
- Standards Compliance: Defined in RFC 4130 ("MIME-Based Secure Peer-to-Peer Business Data Interchange Using HTTP, Applicability Statement 2 (AS2)") and further enhanced by RFC 6017, which introduces the EDIINT-Features header for capability negotiation.
Special note
While AS2 is primarily used for EDI, it is agnostic to content format, enabling the secure transfer of any data type. It is not an asynchronous or FTP solution but relies on standard web protocols for real-time, secure file exchange.
